coming out in middle school!
September 23, 2009queer young adult writing group starts tonight at 7 p.m.!
September 23, 2009do lgbtq identified young adults feel represented in what they read? if so, what is that representation telling them about themselves? our new group at smyrc hopes to open up this conversation to portland’s queer youth, increasing both media literacy and community.
our friends twig and erin from Bare Bones Press will be leading a discussion around queer representation in young adult literature, and then facilitating some writing exercises for the participants.
if you are lgbtq identified and between the ages of 14 and 23, come join us tonight for the first meeting!
thanks, irish marriage equality folks

we love new volunteers
September 15, 2009this weekend is our first training for new volunteers in our new space! leading volunteer trainings is one of my favorite parts of my job, and i can’t wait to get to know this new group of fabulous adults who want to support youth in our community.
Our next training will be in November. if you or someone you know would like more information about what volunteers can do to support smyrc, feel free to email me at ledah.wilcox@cascadiabhc.org.
